Wings of Fire Books in Order
Wings of Fire is Tui T. Sutherland's middle-grade dragon epic for Scholastic - the rare children's fantasy where every protagonist, villain and sidekick is a dragon and the humans are the mythical monsters. Three five-book arcs (2012-2022) built one of the most devoted young fandoms in publishing; each arc is a new prophecy with five new dragon POVs inside one continuous history, and in March 2026 a fourth arc opened with The Hybrid Prince. The fandom's intensity - wikis, OCs, animation projects - sits in Harry Potter territory, and the graphic-novel adaptations pull in readers who arrive for the art (2012–present).
Where to start
The Dragonet Prophecy (2012), arc one, book one. It introduces the war between the seven dragon tribes, the five dragonets raised underground to fulfill a prophecy, and the series' whole voice - dragon politics with kid-novel warmth. Two honest side doors: reluctant readers (and this is a series with many of them) can start with the graphic-novel adaptation of book one, which tells the same story; and older readers sometimes start with arc three (The Lost Continent), the soft-reboot arc set on a new continent that assumes nothing but rewards fans.

Does the reading order matter?
Publication order, and the arc structure is the honest guide: arcs 1-3 are five books each (2012-2022), and arc 4 opens with The Hybrid Prince (March 2026) as the first of a planned three. Within each arc, strict order - the five POVs carry one prophecy between them. Between arcs, knowledge compounds rather than resets: arc 2's school is built by arc 1's survivors, arc 3 crosses continents with consequences arc 4 inherits. The two Legends novels (Darkstalker, Dragonslayer) are standalone: Darkstalker is the villain origin story fans call essential, Dragonslayer retells arc 1's war from the human side. The five Winglets are short e-novellas that slot around arc 1 - optional, and collected in print.
Which one is the best?
Darkstalker (2016) is the fan-named peak of the entire franchise - the three-thousand-year origin of arc 2's villain, and the one Wings of Fire book adults unabashedly read. In the main line, Winter Turning (2015) and The Poison Jungle (2019) get the most rereads, and the original five retain classic status. The Hybrid Prince arrived March 2026 to the series' biggest debut in years and immediately topped library-hold lists.
