Hugh Howey Books in Order
Hugh Howey is the author whose career rewrote the self-publishing playbook: a forty-page Kindle short called Wool (2011) grew into the Silo trilogy, sold millions of copies, outlasted the publishers who passed on it, and now runs as the Apple TV+ series Silo. But Howey's shelf is bigger than one silo - the Sand Chronicles, the cult favorite Beacon 23, the horror curio I, Zombie - and quieter in recent years, with no new novel since Across the Sand (2022). This page maps the whole shelf; the Silo trilogy itself has its own page here (2011–present).
Where to start
Wool (2012) - start on the Silo page here. After the silo: Sand (2014), the one-volume world of dunes and divers.

Does the reading order matter?
The Silo trilogy, strict: Wool (2012), Shift (2013), Dust (2013) - sequenced on its own page here. The Sand Chronicles: Sand (2014, five novellas in one volume), then Across the Sand (2022), a direct continuation - order matters only between those two. Beacon 23 (2015), the lighthouse-keeper-in-space novella-length book, stands alone; so does I, Zombie (2012), the horror experiment. All of this came after the Molly Fyde space-opera quartet, his first books. Nothing new has appeared since Across the Sand - his only 2024 credit is co-editing The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy - so the shelf is stable and finishable. Beacon 23's television adaptation (MGM+, 2023-2024) is the second Howey on screen
Which one is the best?
Wool (2012), the legend; Sand (2014), the best of the non-Silo work; Beacon 23 (2015), small and perfect at novella length.
