Elie Wiesel Books in Order
Elie Wiesel's Night began as an eight-hundred-page Yiddish manuscript the world was not reading; a French editor cut it to roughly a hundred pages, and that condensation - La Nuit in 1958, Night in English in 1960 - became one of the assigned books of the century. He spent the rest of his life writing the aftermath in fiction and testimony, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986, and kept a strange, deliberate structure: a memoir first, then novels that argue with God and memory in sequence. This page runs the shelf and keeps the trilogy - Night, Dawn, Day - exactly together (1958–2012).
Where to start
Night (1958), the memoir, first and always. Dawn (1961) and Day (1962) complete the trilogy.

Does the reading order matter?
The trilogy is the entry and must run in order: Night (1958) is the testimony itself, Dawn (1961) is a short novel about a survivor ordered to execute a hostage in Palestine - the questions start here - and Day (1962), first published as The Accident, is the one where the survivor's guilt turns on himself. All three are short; read them in a week. After the trilogy the shelf opens: The Gates of the Forest (1966) and A Beggar in Jerusalem (1968) are the novels of the sixties, The Oath (1973) the pogrom novel built on a single witness, The Testament (1981) the silenced Soviet Jewry novel. All Rivers Run to the Sea (1995) is the first memoir volume and the best companion to the whole shelf - it explains what the fiction refuses to say directly. Hostage (2010) is the late novel; Open Heart (2012), written after bypass surgery at eighty-two, is the last book and reads like a full stop
Which one is the best?
