Becky Chambers Books in Order
Becky Chambers Kickstarter-funded her first novel, watched it become the heart of a genre now called hopepunk, and won the 2019 Hugo for Best Series with the Wayfarers books - science fiction where the crew works its problems out instead of shooting them. The Monk & Robot novellas then won the Hugo and Locus for Best Novella back to back. She announced the Wayfarers series concluded in 2021, and her first full-length novel outside that universe arrives in 2026. This page maps the whole, deliberately small shelf (2014–present).
Where to start
The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet (2014), the door. A Psalm for the Wild-Built (2021), a two-hour alternative.

Does the reading order matter?
Wayfarers, in publication order, each one a self-contained story about a different corner of the same galaxy: The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet (2014), A Closed and Common Orbit (2016), Record of a Spaceborn Few (2018), The Galaxy, and the Ground Within (2021) - announced as the last, and it closes the series deliberately. Monk & Robot runs A Psalm for the Wild-Built (2021) into A Prayer for the Crown-Shy (2022); a tight duology of novellas, tea and a robot monk, read in one sitting if you like. Between them sit To Be Taught, If Fortunate (2019), the standalone novella about a long survey mission, and The Vela (2019), the serialized collaboration. The Wayfarers order question is mild - the books stand alone - but Orbit's protagonist is introduced in Planet, so publication order is the courteous one. As You Wake, Break the Shell (2026) is the first full-length solo novel outside Wayfarers, and the newest book
Which one is the best?
