  1. Where has Katniss ended up when the book opens? — District 13, the district everyone thought was destroyed. 13 survived underground for seventy-five years - and now it wants Katniss as the Mockingjay, the face of its rebellion.
  2. What do the rebels need Katniss to do? — Star in propaganda films - propos - that rally the districts. Not a soldier first - a symbol. Plutarch Heavensbee's camera crew follows her into real fire to catch one usable, true frame.
  3. Who is the president of District 13? — Alma Coin, cool, precise, and quietly ambitious. Coin runs 13 like a bunker and a clock - and by the end, Katniss understands exactly what kind of leader she intends to be.
  4. What has the Capitol done to Peeta? — Hijacked him - tortured with tracker jacker venom to rewrite his memories. The rescue brings him back saying Katniss is a muttation - the venom has poisoned his love with manufactured fear.
  5. What warning saves lives in District 13? — Hijacked Peeta tells them the Capitol will bomb 13. 'You're still in danger' - Peeta's fragment of a warning gets the base into the bunker before the bombs fall.
  6. What are the 'pods' in the Capitol? — Hidden booby traps that turn the city into a new arena. Katniss's squad moves through streets of pods - fireballs, metal teeth, meat-grinder mutations - a Games the rebels choose to walk into.
  7. What kills Prim? — A double parachute bomb explosion, on the Capitol's children. Prim runs in with the medics as silver parachutes fall - and the second blast is designed for exactly the rescuers who come first.
  8. What does Katniss do at Snow's scheduled execution? — Shoot President Coin instead of Snow. Her arrow takes Coin - the next tyrant - mid-ceremony: the choice the whole trilogy has been arming her for.

About Mockingjay

District 12 is ash, District 13 is real, and both sides want Katniss Everdeen for a symbol. The rebellion has bombers, propos and a president of its own; Peeta is in the Capitol's hands, being rewritten into a weapon aimed back at her. The final volume takes the series' question all the way - what is the cost of winning a war against your own country, and who is left standing to pay it. The novel runs about 100,513 words (roughly 390 pages in a standard paperback) — about 7 hours and 2 minutes of reading at an average pace. Before you commit, see the full breakdown in how long it takes to read Mockingjay or calculate reading time for any other book.

Still first-person present and quick to read, but the bleakest book by far: PTSD, propaganda, the morality of firebombing, and an ending that refuses triumph. Older YA readers, not younger ones. If you get 6 or more of the eight questions right, the book clearly stuck.

What this quiz covers

Suzanne Collins’s Mockingjay sits in our dystopia & allegory shelf, and the eight questions follow the book the way a reader experiences it: how the story opens, the turn in the middle, the characters who carry it, and the ending people still argue about. You will not be asked for page numbers or publication trivia — but three or four questions are built to separate people who read the book from people who read a summary. If a question stumps you, that gap is your reading list talking.

Fair warning for the ambitious: readers who clear this quiz often move straight to the reading-time breakdown for Mockingjay to plan the reread, then test the rest of their shelf against the mixed classic literature quiz.
