  1. Why is Tris in a cell as the book opens? — She helped hijack the broadcast and defy the new factionless government. Evelyn's regime arrests the Insurgent conspirators; Tris gets a cell, a trial and a sentence, and the Allegiant's breakout is the book's opening move.
  2. Who are the Allegiant? — A rebel group who want to restore the factions and follow the founders' plan. Named for the word on the founders' recording - loyal to the experiment. Their plan is simple and enormous: leave the city to find the people who built it.
  3. What does the Bureau of Genetic Welfare reveal about Chicago? — It's a generations-long experiment to repair 'genetically damaged' humanity after a failed government purge. The Purity War, the GD/GP divide, the experiments: the city's factions, virtues and all, were somebody's methodology. It is the trilogy's cruelest reveal - the characters' whole moral world was an experimental condition.
  4. What is Four's result under the Bureau's tests? — Genetically damaged - and not actually Divergent. The hero who built his identity on being Divergent learns he isn't - his talent was real, the label was wrong. The book's middle act is Four deciding what's left of him.
  5. What was Tris's mother's connection to the Bureau? — Natalie Prior was a Bureau agent, sent into the experiment years before. Tris's dead mother had a life outside: recruited by the Bureau, volunteered into the city, chose to stay. The revelation lands in a letter that re-reads the whole trilogy.
  6. What causes Uriah's injuries? — An explosion in the rebellion Nita leads against the Bureau. Nita's raid on the Bureau's weapons kills and maims bystanders; Uriah, Divergent, loyal, uninvolved, never wakes up again. His eventual death is the book's quietest heavy blow.
  7. Who volunteers for the memory-serum mission - and who actually goes? — Caleb volunteers - Tris knocks him out and takes his place. Caleb, who betrayed her to Jeanine, chooses a suicide mission as penance; Tris refuses to let her brother die for her - not out of forgiveness, she says, but because it's what she would do. She walks into the death-serum room herself.
  8. How does Tris die? — She survives the death serum by will - and is shot by David, the Bureau chief. Divergence carries her through the room where everyone else dies screaming; David, the mild director with the folder on her mother, shoots her twice as she transmits the reset. The chapters after are Tobias's - and so is the epilogue.

About Allegiant

The walls are down, Jeanine is dead, and Chicago is about to have a civil war over what it learns: Evelyn's factionless want to erase the factions forever, and the Allegiant want to restore the experiment's founders' plan. Tris and Four go over the wall with a strike team to find who has been watching the city all along - and find a government agency with folders on every resident. The trilogy's final volume splits its narration between Tris and Tobias, and only one of them gets an epilogue. The novel runs about 140,000 words (roughly 526 pages in a standard paperback) — about 9 hours and 48 minutes of reading at an average pace. Before you commit, see the full breakdown in how long it takes to read Allegiant or calculate reading time for any other book.

The longest and heaviest of the three: dual point-of-view, a midway shift into genetic-politics worldbuilding, and an ending that made headlines. Vocabulary stays YA-accessible; the emotional register does not. If you get 6 or more of the eight questions right, the book clearly stuck.

What this quiz covers

Veronica Roth’s Allegiant sits in our dystopia & allegory shelf, and the eight questions follow the book the way a reader experiences it: how the story opens, the turn in the middle, the characters who carry it, and the ending people still argue about. You will not be asked for page numbers or publication trivia — but three or four questions are built to separate people who read the book from people who read a summary. If a question stumps you, that gap is your reading list talking.

Fair warning for the ambitious: readers who clear this quiz often move straight to the reading-time breakdown for Allegiant to plan the reread, then test the rest of their shelf against the mixed classic literature quiz.
