  1. What does Alice follow down the rabbit-hole? — The White Rabbit with a pocket watch. Late, late for a very important date — the waistcoat and the watch are the props that make the hole irresistible.
  2. What does the bottle labeled 'DRINK ME' do? — Shrinks her to ten inches high. The first of many size changes — with the cake labeled 'EAT ME' waiting to undo it.
  3. What does the Caterpillar ask Alice, twice? — 'Who are YOU?'. The identity question the whole book keeps asking as she grows and shrinks away from her original size.
  4. What becomes of the Duchess's baby when Alice carries it off? — It turns into a pig. 'If you don't mind a baby that grunts, it's not a bad pig' — Alice sets it down and lets it go.
  5. Why is the tea-party always stuck at six o'clock? — The Hatter quarreled with Time, which stopped for him. Time, offended, won't do anything the Hatter asks — so the tea and the washing-up rotate forever.

  7. What is the Knave of Hearts accused of at the trial? — Stealing the tarts. 'The Queen of Hearts, she made some tarts' — the nursery rhyme promoted to the crown's docket.
  8. How does Alice end the dream? — Growing to full size and declaring they are nothing but a pack of cards. The cards rise and fly at her — and she wakes on the riverbank with her head in her sister's lap.

About Alice in Wonderland

A bored girl follows a waistcoated rabbit down a hole into a world that runs on dream rules: a caucus-race, a caterpillar's advice, a trial of stolen tarts, and a queen who answers everything with decapitation. The original portal fantasy, and still the strangest. The novel runs about 27,000 words (roughly 96 pages in a standard paperback) — about 1 hour and 53 minutes of reading at an average pace. Before you commit, see the full breakdown in how long it takes to read Alice in Wonderland or calculate reading time for any other book.

Easy — nonsense logic at bedtime-story pace; a children's book on the surface and a chess problem underneath. If you get 6 or more of the eight questions right, the book clearly stuck.

What this quiz covers

Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland sits in our epic, adventure & fantasy shelf, and the eight questions follow the book the way a reader experiences it: how the story opens, the turn in the middle, the characters who carry it, and the ending people still argue about. You will not be asked for page numbers or publication trivia — but three or four questions are built to separate people who read the book from people who read a summary. If a question stumps you, that gap is your reading list talking.

Fair warning for the ambitious: readers who clear this quiz often move straight to the reading-time breakdown for Alice in Wonderland to plan the reread, then test the rest of their shelf against the mixed classic literature quiz.
