Ray Bradbury Books in Order
Ray Bradbury is the case where a writer's short stories are the canon and the novels are the landmarks. The Martian Chronicles (1950) and The Illustrated Man (1951) are assembled from linked stories; Fahrenheit 451 (1953) began as a novella, The Fireman; and the Green Town books - Dandelion Wine, Something Wicked This Way Comes, Farewell Summer - return to one Illinois summer town across five decades of writing. Bradbury's order question is therefore structural, not chronological: which door, and which books are secretly parts of one thing. This page sorts the shelf into its actual shapes (1947–2007).
Where to start
The Martian Chronicles (1950) for the poet of the rocket era; Fahrenheit 451 (1953) if you want the argument. Either works as a first Bradbury.

Does the reading order matter?
By shape, with dates. The Mars pair: The Martian Chronicles (1950), then the Martian-thread stories in The Illustrated Man (1951). The fire argument: Fahrenheit 451 (1953), expanded from The Fireman - the 60th anniversary edition restored it. The Green Town trilogy is one place across three books: Dandelion Wine (1957), Something Wicked This Way Comes (1962), and Farewell Summer (2006), written forty-nine years later from the same original manuscript - read Wine before Something Wicked, and Farewell Summer last as the explicit coda. The California mystery trilogy - Death Is a Lonely Business (1990), A Graveyard for Lunatics (1990), Let's All Kill Constance (2002) - is a separate, looser lane. The late curios: Green Shadows, White Whale (1992), his Melville-in-Tahiti novel, and From the Dust Returned (2001), the Elliott family book assembled from stories published across sixty years. The October Country (1955) and I Sing the Body Electric (1969) are the essential collections beside Dark Carnival (1947), the ultra-rare first
Which one is the best?
The Martian Chronicles (1950); Fahrenheit 451 (1953); Dandelion Wine (1957), the summer that made every other summer a comparison.
